• Vydle Opposes Dolphin Slaughter & Illegal Whaling Operations

Save Japan Dolphins .org LogoVydle was shocked to find out that dolphins and whales are still being slaughtered in the tens of thousands each year, in direct defiance of International Whaling Commission regulations.

We found out about this while watching a moving and eye-opening documentary called “The Cove.”  Director Louie Psihoyos makes our very own Boulder, Colorado his home.  Other members of this brave crew include Colorado climber Joe Chisholm, who is staff of the Colorado-based Oceanic Preservation Society.  Check out this PSA from the OPS:

Vydle feels very strongly that we must not tolerate the killing of these sentient marine creatures any longer.   We call upon the U.S. government and the governments of the rest of the world to force Japan (and a few others) to stop violating whaling prohibitions.  These creatures do not belong to any one government or people.  They are their own sovereign entities, fellow living beings sharing this planet with us.  We ask you to add your voice to ours today.

The danger doesn’t stop with cetaceans.  The flesh of those 23,000 dolphins per year is being marketed as whale meat, but it holds mercury levels that are exponentially higher than the maximum safe levels allowed.  Mercury poisoning has been demonstrated to cause horrible birth defects and even death.

Cudos to Louie and the rest of the people involved in making The Cove!
